FISHERMEN’S ORGANISATION Fishing for Leave – who organised the referendum’s Thames Flotilla – will stage yet another audacious event to highlight the death sentence MPs thwarting Brexit presents to British fishing and coastal communities.

On Friday 15th March a 30ft fishing boat on a lorry will be escorted by a pipe band from North Shields fishing harbour at (08.30), via Wallsend High St (10.00) and Byker, to Newcastle Quayside (12.00).

At the same time a flotilla of some 20 fishing vessels will leave North Shields (10.00) and head up the Tyne to pass under Millennium Bridge. The flotilla will re-unite with the boat, lorry and pipe band as they arrive and parade along the Quayside (12.00). All times approximate.

The Parade will then March up to cross the symbolic Tyne Bridge on the A167 to bellows of horns and hooters from the fishing boats below.

The boat, lorry and pipe band will then head to Jarrow to fire the start on the ‘Jarrow March for Brexit’, as Brexit groups set off on the March to Leave from the North East in Sunderland the following day (Sat 16th) to Parliament Square. Arriving in London on the 29th– a day Leave campaigns say will mark Brexit victory or betrayal day.

Fishing for Leave are throwing their weight behind Brexit groups – and increasing public calls (*new polling) – for the government to admit the loathed Withdrawal Agreement is dead and for MPs to honour the Brexit vote by ensuring Britain leaves the EU under World Trade Organisation terms.

Why are we doing this? The terms of the Withdrawal Agreement are an existential threat to fishing and a total betrayal of Brexit and Britain. It means a second surrender of our industry and coastal communities and places a constitutional bomb under democracy.

The protest’s purpose is to remind our representatives whom we elect to ensure we leave on the 29th of March and to highlight our industry’s plight as symbolic of EU misrule to a public who are equally sickened by our own government’s actions.

Fishing for Leave will launch this historic march of the British people to our capital to send a message to our elected representatives to obey our democratic instruction and that our industry won’t accept a second surrender of the UK and our fishing.

We’ve at the crossroad, this is our last chance to convince MPs to stop this surrender of Britain, Brexit and one of our country’s greatest renewable resource. One that can support generations to come in areas like Scotland and the North East.

We therefore appeal to every Briton who loves their country to support us at the launch and along the way. Help us convince our MPs not to betray the largest democratic instruction in British history. In Scotland? Get down the A1 and come and support us.

• You can join the Flotilla with your boat to accompany the parade.

• You can join the Parade on the pavements at North Shields, Wallsend, Newcastle Quayside or symbolically in Jarrow.

• Follow in your car with flags flying to form a convoy with horns blaring.

• Invite friends, family and fellow Brexiteers to join in.

It’s time to wear Yellow wellies rather than yellow yests!
