Time to "Tell The Truth" or to be "Cautious"?
Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne MP, continues to defend his decision to warn of a possible run on the value of the pound because he says his job is “to tell the British people the truth”. Meanwhile UK Government Ministers continue to slate Mr. Osborne’s warning of an immediate threat to the value of the pound, insisting his statement breaks parliamentary tradition.
With parliamentarians on both sides insisting their parties stance if right the question for Scotland is not whether Mr. Osborne should have spoken it is surely whether what he said is true? The potential consequence of a vastly devalued pound include fewer people being able to afford foreign holidays and the value of imported goods going up at the very time people need them to be coming down.
In times of recession politicians on all sides must be careful what they say but more importantly what they say must always be the truth!
