Robert Kilgour – Chair
““We don’t get down to brass tacks enough when it comes to what’s happening in Europe and how it affects our lives.””
Robert Kilgour is a Scottish entrepreneur, investor and property developer currently based in Monaco. He is Chief Executive of London-based Dow Investments Ltd, and also a Director of Forth Care Ltd, Network Webcams Ltd, Camvista Global Ltd, Callidus Holdings LLC and Alba Holdings (Belgium) SA. Robert’s entrepreneurial spirit has been his driving force since the beginning of his career. Upon leaving the University of Stirling, where he spent his weekends selling jeans at a market stall, Robert’s first project was the purchase, management and upgrading of a small hotel in the New Town area of Edinburgh. During this time he increased turnover by some 400% before selling the business.
Following his successful foray into the hotel business, Robert went on to start Four Seasons Health Care (Care Homes and Home Care) where he developed the business into the fifth largest care home company in the UK. After leaving Four Seasons, Robert co-founded Camvista Ltd, a webcam business that counted among its clients many UK ‘Blue Chip’ companies. In recognition of Camvista’s success, Robert was nominated as a Finalist in Ernst & Young’s Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year Competition in 2001.
Robert has served on the CBI Scottish Council, the CBI UK SME Council and the Scottish Growing Business Forum. He is a member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange, the Institute of Directors, and the Association of Project Managers. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Robert’s interests have always extended beyond his business pursuits, and throughout his career he has been involved in a number of charitable and political activities. During his time at Four Seasons, Robert organised four major Scottish Care of the Elderly Conferences, which were attended by members of the voluntary, business and public sectors in order to improve understanding and co-operation between the sectors. Beginning in 1993, Robert served as Chairman of the Fife Macmillan Cancer Project for over two years during which time £1.75M was raised for improving hospice provision in Fife. In the 1997 UK General Election, Robert stood as a Conservative Westminster Parliamentary Candidate in Hamilton South, against Lord Robertson, the former Secretary-General of NATO.
Robert is married and has four children.
