Elena Kachkova was born in the USSR in 1961. She finished an English-speaking school in Academytown, Novosibirsk, and continued her education in Minsk, then the capital of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, at the State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign languages, which she graduated from, with Honours, in 1984. (this equates to a double first in English and German).

During the perestroika period (re-construction under Mikhail Gorbachev) she ran one of the first successful private companies offering crash courses in English, German, Spanish and French.

Elena moved to the UK in 1991, where she worked as an Art Consultant (1991 - 1993), Director of The Russian Communications Company (1993 - 1998), teacher of Russian at Fettes College, Edinburgh (1993 - 2002), and a Parliamentary Adviser to Struan Stevenson MEP at the Scottish Conservatives Central Office (1999 - 2002). She moved to South Africa in 2002 where she continues a successful career as a Consultant on matters relating to the former Soviet Socialist Republics, and current state of political affairs in South Africa.

Elena, married with one daughter is interested in art, photography, literature and dog training, jewellery design.
